Camping By: Diana Evan

Camping out in the country is always fun. This past weekend I went on a two day camping trip with the school. Some of the students stayed at Youth Camp while most of us stayed at five day. I’m so glad that the school had an opportunity for us to go out camping and learn more about our culture. It was so good to get a break from home, cell phones, and school.
When we first got up there, we set up all the tents, made hot dogs, ate snacks and then got ready to go on a boat ride. What we did was chase after beavers, birds, cows and bulls. The same day, one of the boys caught a duck, which we had with soup. The next day, after everyone ate lunch, we all went on a long boat ride.
While taking a ride, we saw a cabin, and checked it out. Also we bumped into the other students with their captains, and they were on top of the hill checking an old man’s grave. I sure enjoyed the long boat rides because it is always beautiful in the country. Before we all went to camp, we chased after a cow for about fifteen minutes. The younger kids were so excited thinking the boys were going to catch it, but they didn’t. After that we all went back to camp and saw that Cindy caught a moose. At camp, we cooked moose meat over the fire which was super yummy.
Friday morning we put everything away before we ate lunch. After lunch, everyone got ready to start heading down river. On our way down we took a ride to see if we would see anything. What was so exciting one of the boys saw a moose swimming, so our captain cruised to the moose. Soon as the young bull went onto the land, Robert said “Let Alo shoot first!” After Alo had his first shot, four of the other boys shot and knocked it down. It was so much fun to experience someone catch their first moose. Then, we all came home and had to tell everyone how much fun we all had. This trip was so awesome, and I’m thankful for the school for providing us with gas and food to let us go out camping.
